Windows 7 is the seventh version of the Microsoft Windows operating system. It follows Windows Vista and is designed to be a sleeker operating system than its predecessor, with faster performance and fewer compatibility issues. Windows 7 also includes several new features, such as multi touch support for touchscreen interfaces, a simple home networking system called "HomeGroup," and an improved Windows Search feature. Even after its successor Windows 8 was released, Windows 7 is still considered industry's best.
Windows 7 is available to the public in three different editions, of which the Home Premium, Professional and Ultimate were available at retail in most countries. Home Premium, Professional, and Ultimate were aimed at home users and small businesses respectively, while Ultimate were aimed at enthusiasts.
Windows 7 Ultimate is the updated version of the Vista Ultimate operating system from Microsoft and was primarily intended to be a an incremental upgrade to the operating system intending to address Windows Vista's poor critical reception while maintaining hardware and software compatibility. Windows 7 also continued improvements on Windows Aero (the user interface introduced in Windows Vista) with the addition of a redesigned taskbar that allows applications to be "pinned" to it, and new windows management features. The new "Action Center" interface was also added to provide an overview of system security and maintenance information, and tweaks were made to the User Account Control system to make it less intrusive.
